The demographic makeup of the NRRM has undergone significant change in the past few decades. While the median population age has increased in the Northern Rockies, it is well below the provincial average for communities.

The proportion of older residents to choosing to remain in the region longer also reflects the degree to which medical, transportation and other amenities have improved in the Regional Municipality over time.

It is expected that the trends described below will be further demonstrated when the results of the latest census become available.
