NRRM Strategic Priorities 2023 - 2026

The 2023–2026 Strategic Priorities for the Northern Rockies Regional Municipality (NRRM) sets out the key objectives and focus areas that will guide the Municipality’s work over the current four-year Council term. This strategic framework reflects Council’s long-term vision and commits to delivering community benefits across economic, social, environmental, governance, and service sustainability areas.

At its core, the strategy emphasizes resilience, balanced growth, and quality of life — aiming to enhance opportunities for employment, education, recreation, housing, and health and wellness services throughout the region

Regional Economic Development

Economic development is progressing and continues to forge ahead, assisted by recommendations in the NRRM Regional Economic Strategy (2019). Promising developments that are expected to contribute to the Northern Rockies' vision include:

  • Renewed interest in the forest sector;
  • Optimism regarding Final Investment Decisions on the establishment of a major biomass production facility;
  • The commissioning of a Distributed LNG Facility in Fort Nelson with the promise of more to come;
  • Fort Nelson First Nation's progress on a significant Geothermal Energy project;
  • Growth in local agriculture production;
  • The relaxation of travel restrictions with the prospect of restored activity in the hospitality, transportation and tourism sectors;
  • Positive feedback from the NRRM's “Look North” initiative that identifies economic opportunities in the Yukon, Northwest Territories and Nunavut.
